Flawless Shotcrete Curved Wall and Egg-shaped Feature Wall Fulfill Artistic Vision for Performing Arts Center
The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is one of Central Florida’s premier cultural landmarks. Its Stage 2 expansion introduced Steinmetz Hall — designed to be one of the world’s most acoustically perfect performance spaces. Bringing that vision to life required a sweeping, sculptural interior surface known as the “Wave Wall,” together with a companion “Egg” feature wall in the lobby.
Working inside an operating, acoustically-sensitive venue presented several interlocking challenges. The project featured complex geometry and required structural integration while functioning in tight spaces and ensuring a safety-critical environment. The complex, curving shotcrete walls demanded tight geometric tolerances, custom reinforcement, and flawless finished surfaces.
CROM met the project’s demanding requirements, delivering a one-of-a-kind architectural surface within one of the world’s most acoustically ambitious venues.
